READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles LP Help! 1976 Orange Capitol Straight Transfer Consignment PROMO, EX!
Collectors know that orange Capitol Straight Transfer labels are unreasonably rare. Only a few copies of a few titles exist.
In 1976, very shortly before Capitol had settled on its format for the typeset layout for the orange Capitol labels, which were simple block letterings above and below the playhole for each title, the initial pressings were printed up, using the templates for the Apple labels from the end of 1975.
Help! was the only title to have been consigned to Columbia Records for help meeting demand that year.
The only titles I’ve been able to confirm are:
Help!
Revolver
Sgt. Pepper
Magical Mystery Tour and
Hey Jude.
Has anyone confirmed other titles that are Straight Transfers, as opposed to Rearranged Transfers? Please get in touch.
Vinyl--- EX/EX. Manufacturer’s cloudiness only, both sides. Otherwise this copy looks very clean.
Plates--- G23/ H20. Dead wax actually has the Los Angeles asterisk, meaning that the plates were sent to Columbia Records from the west coast.
Cover--- VG+. Cover retains full shine and color graphics, but it also has some light yellowing around the edges. Not bad at all. Back cover has very light dirtwear. Promo hole punch in the top right corner.
There are NO SEAM SPLITS and very little shelfwear to the edges. But the spine and bottom seam do have a few inches of crackled slick. That’s the only real issue to this cover.
Gatefold--- EX. Almost a near mint gatefold. NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.
Labels--- EX/EX. Barely noticeable spindle marks, few and very light on both sides. Thin-cut concentric groove closer to the outer edge of the labels come from Columbia lathes.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. Sleeve has significantly yellowed. Two seams have splits a few inches long. Corresponding promo punch hole in the top corner. The other top corner has some unfading, where the LP sleeve was stored in a different position for a long period than it was when inserted at the plant.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A
If you’ve never seen nor heard of one of these, it’s a safe bet that you should get this one. It’s your keeper, as well as your first.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
