READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX. They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label. I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.
The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split. Here’s one that’s a great, solid play copy.
(Please Note: Thank you to all who purchased a copy of my book on flash drive this Christmas Season, and for the marvelous feedback on its contents!
This flash drive will be retired for the season at the end of the month, so if you’re still one of the Watchers, please buy yours now. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until next year. Best for a Happy New Year to us all.)
The entire week was dark and snowy here, which results in dark and grainy photos. Sorry about that!
Beatles LP Magical Mystery Tour 1967 First Pressing Scranton Early Plates, EX!
Very beautiful vinyl on this copy. Cover isn’t bad, but it’s nowhere near as nice as the LP is. True first pressing with early plates and all titles credited to BMI.
Vinyl--- EX/EX. That’s a conservative grading. Most sellers wouldn’t have a problem stretching this one to NM. However; each side has just one or maybe two extremely light lines per side, which you will find after several seconds of hunting for them. Gorgeous LP.
Plates--- A21/B24. Pretty close to the first-day issue A1 plates. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Cover--- VG. Structurally solid cover. Light dirtwear and ringwear to both front and back. Not bad, but it does contribute to a dulling of both panels. Top and bottom seams have light to moderate shelfwear. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Gatefold and Booklet--- VG. Inside front gatefold panel has “No, You’re Not” in block letters, which only occurred on first-pressing covers out of Scranton only. Light dirtwear and light mildew smell if you fan the mouth open and closed a few times. (Or maybe that’s my tea.)
Booklet attachment is weak, so be careful.
Labels--- NM/NM. 1967-new looking labels. All titles have BMI publishing credits on both sides. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. Sleeve presents VG+. Has light wrinkles and moderate record outdent. One side seam has a 4-inch split.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A
If you have a supernice first-printed Scranton cover for this LP, you will have a supernice keeper on your hands!
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
