READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP Meet the Beatles SCARCE 1968 Subsidiary of Consignment, EX!
Collectors know that Capitol had enlisted the help of RCA, Columbia and Decca Records to help meet the demands of Beatles albums throughout the 60’s. Most are in Mono, and most are pre-1968. However; a very small number of Beatles albums were pressed in Stereo by the consignment plants for the 1968 run of the “Subsidiary of…” catalogue.
The great thing about the “Subsidiary of…” run is that the plates were refreshed back to “A” plates for about half the run. These plates provide deeper grooves and better sound quality than the plates further down the run. So, finding Stereo consignment copies is rare enough. But only around half of those have refreshed plates.
Not easy to find these.
This copy was pressed by Columbia Records, and is in marvelous condition.
Vinyl--- EX/EX. Both sides gleam like brand new, with the exceptions of just a small number of extremely light scratches per side. 95% original shine.
Plates--- A11/A11. Those plate numbers follow the matrices per side. But curiously, in very faint hand-etched alpha-numerics on each side, there are “A1” and “A3,” respectively.
There are no Capitol insignias present, because this copy wasn’t pressed by Capitol.
Cover--- VG+. Or at least a mighty strong VG. Light to moderate wear to the front cover, light wear to the back cover. All seams and spine are muscular-strong, NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Labels--- NM/NM. Labels look like they were just printed. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
**Thin concentric groove closer to the edge of the labels is the hallmark of Columbia lathes, as well as the razor-sharp dead wax groove. **

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+.
Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present. Sleeve presents very well. Nice and flat, a little yellowed since 1968. Bottom seam has a tiny 1/8th-inch center split. Other seams are perfect.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 9
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
