Description
THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/'P.S. I LOVE YOU'
UK 1962 1st PRESSING 45
This 1962 early 1st pressing of The Beatles' debut 45 is on the red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R4949
Both have the 'Ardmore & Beechwood' publishing credit but OMIT the 'Made in Gt. Britain' text.
An 'MT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the 'P.S. I Love You' label.
'MPZT' codes are stamped in both run-outs.
Each label bears a minor variation:
1. The 'A' side, the songwriting credit beneath the 'Love Me Do' title has been nudged a few spaces to the left.
2. The right parentheses is missing from the songwriting credit on 'P.S. I Love You'.
This disc is housed within an original 'beach-striped' Parlophone company cover.
Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N
Stamper codes: 1/GO (AD is xxxed out) & 1/GO
CONDITION
Labels: VERY GOOD +
Both are clean & bright with number of spindle marks are visible around each centre hole but no writing, missing paper or stickers - past or present on either side.
Visual: VERY GOOD
Both playing surfaces are clean and glossy and free from any significant surface marks or scratches in strong daylight. Careful inspection beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals a number of harmless wispy and stylus hairlines but again, no major blemishes. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable.
Play: GOOD
Clearly played many times some noticeable surface noise is audible throughout both sides. However, there are no clicks, pops, jumps or any other such major fault on this early copy.
Cover
GOOD
General age/storagewear with some writing on two of the corners but no seam split or tears.
