Description
THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/'P.S. I LOVE YOU'
This extremely early 1st UK pressing of The Beatles' dates from day of release in October 1962 and is on the red & silver Parlophone label: 45-R 4949
I am offering the record with an interesting letter from the disc's original owner who in ti explains how she purchased the record from Brian Epstein's NEMS record store in Liverpool. The letter also mentions the time she went to a lunchtime session at the Cavern to see The Beatles and Gerry & The Pacemakers performing on the same bill.
Both labels include the 'Made In Gt. Britain' text and have 'Ardmore & Beechwood' publishing credits.
A 'WT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the 'Love Me Do label and 'ZT' is in both run-outs.
Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N
Stamper codes: -/JR & -/JR
The above stamper codes are usually only found on demo copies of this single. It is extremely rare and unusual to find them on both sides of a regular stock copy.
As a bonus, I am offering this 45 with an original EMI 'Top Pop' cover which was used to house Beatles/Parlophone demos from this period.
CONDITION
Disc
Labels: EXCELLENT
Both labels are clean & unblemished. There is a collection of light spindle marks but no wear to the centre holes themselves.
Visual: VERY GOOD
Both playing surfaces are clean & glossy but do display a handful of light surface marks and a few stylus scratches but nothing deep or feelable. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.
Play: VERY GOOD
This copy has been frequently played but is without any major deterioration to the sound quality. My single careful play check found a touch of light background but no significant groove/play wear or anything which detracts from the warm and full sound of this historic 45.
Cover: EXCELLENT
Clean & flat with a light disc impression but no writing, tears or seam splits.
