Description
Vinyl was play tested through Focal Elegia's and it played as EX. I numerically score the vinyl an 93.6 (I broke these grades down by tracks A side 1 - 95 2 - 95, 3 - 90, 4 - 95, 5 - 95 B Side 1 - 95, 2 - 90, 3 - 94, 4 - 93 and 5 - 96). In some areas there was very very light surface noise, almost every track had what could have been a missed fleck of dust while cleaning (not popping or ticking but something I heard). A3 sounded like a 95 until end of the track when it sounded like multiple flecks (5-6, it happened fast and it was more than I wanted) into the transition with A4. This was essentially the same issue with B2 (it was 5 outright), and B4 had a couple flecks as well. The VG+ grade is relative to the visual inspection. While the A-side showed only minor visual issues the B-Side has a long visual rub running the length of the side (I didn't see this until after the play, I clean the vinyl and then play it letting my ears do the first grade) that seems like it would have caused way more of an issue than it did. The bottom line with this vinyl is that it sounds excellent overall, and if you've never heard The Beatles on MFSL vinyl, this album will give you a good idea of what the rest of the MFSL mixing sounds like if you decide to indulge in the box set or chasing down the rest of these individual mixes; if you like this vinyl after you play it, at some point find a clean box set and you won't regret it.
The sleeve is scored as Fair with the most driving issue being the ripping/tearing along the bottom of the gate fold which I have attempted to capture in the pictures. The is also corner wear and light seam wear. At arms length (and if you strategically hold it within the destroyed area) it doesn't look so bad. Just don't move your hand. Numerically, I am scoring this cover an 60, just 1 point above an F; this all having been said, so long as the record is sitting on the shelf the spine looks great.
