Beatles Magical Mystery Tour US Mono lp MAL 2835 1st pressing UK Import
Matrices: MAL 1 - 2835 P9 and MAL 2 - 2835 P9
The US adopted Stereo far earlier than the UK and the vast majority of US lps sold after 1965 were Stereo. By 1967 when this was released very few people bought mono lps making this - the last mono Beatles lp in the States - a very rare item. That rarity, and the fact that this has a very different mix to the stereo version, makes this a very desirable item for collectors.
The lp is graded ex-. It is very clean and shiny and lies flat on the turntable. There are a couple of very light wispy marks that make no difference to the sound which is excellent throughout. There is a very faint crackle in the run ins but the music is completely unaffected.
The labels are excellent with some spindle marks but no tears, rips writing or stickers etc.
The cover is graded vg+. It has the all important UK import sticker, which is intact, though someone has put a crease in two corners trying to remove it. The condition of the outer cover is excellent with none of the edge and corner wear the wrap around on these US sleeves were prone to. It really does look very fresh. Unfortunately inside the gatefold the booklet has come free (as it has in almost every copy of the lp) and someone has repaired it with sellotape leaving the characteristic brown reside (see photo). There is also a little browning and ruffling to the first page of the booklet (the rest is fine other than the tape residue).
