'THE ORIGINAL GREATEST HITS'
by THE BEATLES
vinyl LP, 12"
label: Greatest Records GRC-1001
vinyl - EX, cover - EX
This is the first ever issued unauthorized album of the Beatles that appeared in 1964 in US. The songs are the original versions (not out-takes, live, etc), so it would call the album a pirate rather than a bootleg. The four floating hairdos on front cover suggested the Beatles because there is no printed name of the group. After a very short time the record was withdrawn from the music shops.
On this album featured the version of "Love Me Do" with Ringo on drums, very unique at that time. This version is mastered from original master tape. The Ringo's version was issued only on Parlophone single in 1962. When EMI decided to re-issue Ringo-on-drums version of "Love Me Do" in 1982 , to mark the 20th anniversary of the song, they must to master this track from a 45, since the master tape had been destroyed when EMI decided to issue the Andy White version on "Please, Please Me" LP. The Ringo's version is also on the "Past Masters - Vol.1" and the US "Rarities" LP, but those were mastered from a 45 as well.
