Description

THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
Available for just a few weeks in late spring 1963 and arguably as rare as the gold or 1st '33 1/3 yellow & black label pressings.

This rare & early UK STEREO variant is on the transitional 2nd version of the yellow & black Parlophone label: PCS 3042

Both labels omit the 'Recording First Published..' & small '33 1/3' indicator in the 9 o'clock position.

An 'MT' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the side 2 label.

1st pressing matrix numbers: YEX 94-1 & YEX 95-1

Stamper codes: 1/P & 1/G

Vinyl weight: 165g

Housed within an early, 'gold' label compatible front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed stereo cover, with the 'Angus McBean' credit positioned in the extreme lower right corner.

Complete with its original poly-lined inner-sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT +

This rare pair is bright & clean, bearing just a small number of light spindle trails around each centre hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Extremely clean & unworn playing surfaces which retain a their deep-gloss shine. The only noticeable blemishes in strong daylight are a handful of light, non-feelable marks (mostly fingernail scuff lines) which are located on side 2 only. Closer inspection directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals little more than some harmless wispy paper-type hairlines & a sparkling rainbow shine. Both sides of this very hard to find disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT

This fine sounding disc was pressed from one of the the earliest of stampers and the warmth and clarity of the sound is extremely impressive. This copy has received minimal attention from good quality stereo equipment and my single careful play-check at volume found no trace of any groove/playwear distortion on any track or in either channel. In fact, apart from three soft 'pops' on 'Chains' there are no audible distraction or wear anywhere on this rare copy which would be difficult to locate again, let alone upgrade.

Cover: VERY GOOD

A firm & fully early example bears a moderate amount of general storagewear but is without any major faults.

The front panel is bright & clean with a single 'thumbnail' together with several smaller wrinkles around the edges. There is moderate shelfwear rubbing to all corners but no damage to either opening edge. The exposed rear panel is clean overall with nothing more than slight age-toning and and a few very faint age-related stains but certainly no writing or missing paper. All flipbacks are present and fully intact with just a small scuff on the lower one. There is are a few small section of missing laminate on the lower seam but it is not split or stressed. The upper seam has a small bump mid-way along but is otherwise unworn.

The spine is clean & fully worded.

Inner-sleeve: VERY GOOD +

Clean & white with a few light storage creases but no writing, seam splits or tears.
