****Please read description carefully****
Here we have an original UK Parlophone pressing of the Beatles debut "Please Please Me". This is the famous "Black and Gold" label, with the Northern Songs publishing credits. Before we go any further, please note:
**** This record sticks on Side 1, Track 1 - "I Saw Her Standing There" (during first chorus)****
So, it does not play through track 1, and the listener must physically lift the needle over the sticking spot to continue play. This "flaw" is more like a scrape or an abrasion than a scratch and as such, I doubt it could ever be fixed. Such a shame, but it must be clearly understood.
Okay. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, allow me to continue...
This record, aside from track 1, is in fantastic condition. The vinyl still retains its gloss, and shows only minor evidence of previous play. I think that is due to the issue with track 1. As a result, the remaining 13 tracks play virtually flawlessly, with very little background, and no clicks, pops, or any other distractions. There are a few very light stylus "hairlines" and handling signs on side 1, but none of these affect the sound in any way. Side 2 is close to completely clean, with just the lightest of handling signs...amazing for this record. The only song that possibly has some distortion is "Twist and Shout", which may have a bit of peak wear. To tell the truth, I'm unsure as to whether or not that is how it is supposed to sound, given that my other copies sound similar.
The all important Black and Gold labels are in fantastic condition and clearly have not been affected by multiple visits to a turntable. There is virtually no wear to the centre holes on either side, and it is even difficult to detect any spindle alignment traces on these easily marked labels. A couple of the above-mentioned light "hairlines" extend partially onto the Side 1 label, but are very light and very hard to see. All printing is clear and clean, with no rubbing or fading to the all important gold text. Just simply superb and would display very nicely, if so desired.
The sleeve is in superb condition, with no seam splits, writing, or any other serious flaws. It does show its age somewhat, with some edge lifting to the flipbacks, but is generally in great condition, with all spine text clear, and back panel text clean, with some minor age "foxing". Please note that the "Angus McBean" photo credit text on the front, bottom right corner, is not the far right positioned version.
Also included is the original inner, with clear poly die-cut centre, also in super condition, with no seam splits, one small tear at the die-cut centre hole, and some age-related yellowing.
Please look closely at my pictures. Though it is quite small, I have tried to show the flaw (see photo 11) on Side 1, Track 1, as well as the beautiful labels, vinyl and sleeve.
This record sounds fantastic. You can actually "hear the room" on this pressing, which really gives you goosebumps as the sound is so "Live-ish". A beautiful record, except for track 1 (don't forget this flaw is there!!!).
There is no reserve on this record, and a low starting bid so bid with confidence and... Good Luck!!!
