Description
As you will see this is basically the Holy Grail of Beatles LPs as it is the Northern Songs Black and Gold label Mono original from 1963. Not only is the LP incredibly rare but this one is in quite simply stunning condition, the best I have ever seen.
Starting with the vinyl, playback is remarkable with virtually no pops or crackle at all. Clearly this LP has had only the lightest of play since it's release 54 years ago. Check out the labels!!!!! Most copies, on the rare occasion they show up, have wear around the spindle centre hole. This one does not. Both labels are beautifully clear, again an indication of very little usage. The matrix numbers are, as you would expect, those of the very first pressing XEX 421-1N and XEX 422-1N. The vinyl surfaces are incredibly shiny for an album of this age and have only non-sounding surface lines. I confidently grade the vinyl as VERY GOOD PLUS.
Now to the sleeve. It's absolutely fantastic. On the very rare occasion you see one of these original Beatles LP's there is usually a lot of wear to the sleeve including cellotape and dirty marks. This one does not have that. As you can see from the photo's this is the original Ernest J.Day & Co sleeve. The rear of the flip-back sleeve is incredibly clean due to the record having been stored for years in a PVC protective sleeve. The spine is fully readable and there is very little wear to the edges and corners. Being hyper strict I grade this, the original sleeve as EXCELLENT MINUS.
To get an original Gold and Black Parlophone pressing of this, the first Beatles LP, is in itself virtually impossible. To find one with the vinyl in such stunning condition is again virtually impossible. Add to that a sleeve that is as good as will ever be presented on Ebay then this must surely be the best ever possibility of getting such an iconic LP presented in this condition as will ever be available.
