Description

Up for sale from my collection is a overall very good UK LP complete copy of the Beatles

Please Please Me first issue on Black and Gold labels.

1st and 2nd issues were on the old Black and Gold label. All issues there after changed to the Black and Yellow label.

1st issue covers were made by E.J.Day & Co

1st issue cover look at the small credit to Angus McBean at the bottom right hand corner on the front . The first letter of this text “A” should start just after the “S” in “SONGS” text above it. note: later releases of this cover, primarily after the third pressing or third issues of this album, the “A” in Angus McBean text starts below the SONGS text in the middle of the G and S in “SONGS” text.

The front of the cover is laminated and at the rear featured large flip backs with the print “Printed and made by E.J.Day & co Ltd Patents pending” Note: To my knowledge Garrod & Lofthouse printed covers were not printed or released with the 1st issues of this album.

Cover: Good. Front is good some wrinkles around the edges. Corners have wear. The words, Please Please Me The Beatles still legible. Back is yellowed and slightly dirty. No writing. Flip back is ripped and separated from back. Other than that, no edge splits. (See pictures).

Inner Sleeve: original Emitex inner sleeve. Wrinkled. Complete Full split on one side. Small rips on entrance edge. Small 1 “ split on opposite side.

Record: labels are good. All writing is legible. Quite a bit of hole wear on labels.

Record: Side one, large 2” scratch that does not click or skip because of the think vinyl and deep grooves.

Both sides have numerous small scuffs and light scratches.

Listening Quality: considering all the light scratches and scuffs, the sound is great. Again , attributed to the thick vinyl and deep groove cut.

Side One: XEX 421-1N RG

Side Two: XEX 422-1N GO

All in all a good entry level record of the first issue of the Beatles to add to your collection.
