THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
UK 1963 *BLACK & GOLD* LABEL MONO LP
**RARE 'CROSSOVER' PRESSING**
This impressive example of The Beatles' 1st UK LP bears BOTH versions of the black & gold Parlophone labels: PMC 1202
Side 1 has the corrected 'Northern Songs' publishing credits for songs 1 & 2 whereas side 2 carries the initial, incorrect 'Dick James Mus. Co' for tracks 4 & 6 on side 2.
An 'MT' tax/price code is visible on the side 1 label.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 2/GL & 1,2/GM
Disc weight: 168g
Housed in a correct, early, front laminated, tri-flipback 'Erenest J. Day' printed mono cover.
The 'Angus McBean' credit is positioned in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Labels: EXCELLENT PLUS
A beautiful set with just a small hairline scratch on each but no spindle marks, touch-up, writing or missing paper.
Visual: Side 1: EXCELLENT PLUS Side 2: EXCELLENT
This well-looked after & extremely carefully played copy retains all of its 'as new' deep gloss shine on both sides with no dull/clouded areas from improper storage.
Both sides appear pristine when viewed in strong daylight bearing with just two or three insignificant light surface scuff lines close-up, but nothing which I would call a scratch.
Close inspection directly beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals nothing more than a vibrant rainbow shine with side 2 displaying some insignificant wispy hairlines but no other wear.
A solid, quality and heavy pressing which lies 100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: EXCELLENT MINUS
This disc has been played but not overly so and there is no significant deterioration to the sound quality or any major faults throughout.
Careful, critical listening at volume revealed some minor background on quieter passages and between tracks but no other perceptible audible wear.
'Twist & Shout' does inevitably bear some playwear which has urged me to a conservative audible grading.
However, there are certainly no jumps, repeats or any other singificant fault which I have not already mentioned.
Cover: EXCELLENT
An sparkling front panel which retains a totally unscratched high-gloss lamiante which bears just a few faint edge wrinkles and a light bend under Ring,o but no 'thumbnails' or other wear.
There is some very slight rubbing to the corners but all are unbumped and unsplit. Both opening edges are clean & sharp with just a hint of wear but no tears or 'feathering'.
The rear is bright & white and apart from a contemporaryl 1960's Beatles 'stamp', bears no other significant or major signs of use or wear.
All the delicate flipbacks are clean, intact with just slightwear to the upper one but no tears or missing piece to any.
Both seams are totally smooth and unworn with no flaking or missing laminate and the spine clean & fully worded.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT
Clean and flat with just minor storage wrinkling but no tears, writing or splits.
