This is definatley one of the most sought after and difficult to find Beatles records in good order, there are many "rough" copies around but finding a 1st Press Mono remix 11 of Tomorrow never knows" is tricky! its very very hard to find a good Ex or Nr Ex copy now £400+

This version is not available on any other Beatles releases or in stereo.

Add to your Beatles "essentials" here....

You can buy a damaged/filler copy for around £200 or or buy a keeper "for all time" now here for a little bit more...

Finding one like this for less means "good luck" The cover on this is clean clean pristine in excellent condition (see pics), 40 years in pvc sleeve stored vertical smoke free home

Photos are of actual item for sale, what you see is what you get here!

we have tried to show on the rear cover main pic how clean the sleeve is...Excellent.

see the description for the vinyl its in great order Nr Excellent.

The Mono v Stereo story

It is a long one but briefly, this album was recorded for Mono at Abbey Road Studios in early 1966.
Stereo was only beginning to be introduced so the engineers had lots and lots experience with Mono.

The Beatles also had lots experience with Mono having "cut their teeth" with this ,

John Lennon knew the sound he wanted and "Tomorrow" remix 11 was very much "his" track, there are tales of h im singing this whilst suspended & (inverted) "upside down" if you are translating! (yes true) the audio quality on this track is incredible payed on our Rega 3 with great results.

As apparently he wanted to sound disorientated for this one with a revolving sound. Links to LSD at the time are well publicised, what it gives us is a window to the world of 1966 !

This remix is not on any other Beatles releases. You can only get this on a. 1966 mono original 1st pressing.

People and parties were many for The Beatles (Dr Robert) tells the story of a New York "Doctor" who could supply all needs for the party, its also only on "First Presses" as Dr. later pressings show "Doctor" it's well know Lennon wanted to step out of the norm John and Paul routine on this one so the Dr may well have assisted.

What's know is it was a 'group decision" to change this very very early as soon as the first presses came out, with the result that only a few thousand of these "got out" the remix 11 stands as a great view of how much more adventurous they wanted to be.
This is in our view the better and more interesting version but over to listener!

Mono

For us "Sergeant Peppers" and "Revolver" recorded very close together in 66/67  Mono is the way to go!

In our view it was early days for the "new format" Stereo and the engineers at Abbey Road were working well with the format they knew,

Stereo releases in late 66 and early 67 were mostly 'enhanced" later from the Mono originals, working with stereo was very new to most engineers and and whilst some clever panning right to left and sound effects jump out, the Mono of Revolver and Peppers win hands down with punchy crisp sound and clearer defined bass to us anyway.....

You can see how much the value of the Mono originals are rising here on ebay so the market seems to agree.

The record

Matrix XEX-606-1 is what you are looking for on side 2, only this has the legendary "tomorrow never knows" remix 11 (there are no exceptions) all later mono versions have remix 8 "very different"

Label is in great condition with light spindle marking on the yellow gold Parlaphone label "made in Great Britain" is one this original (see photos) also Dr Robert, later copies show Doctor Robert.
Some sleeve removal and storage marks only but no deep scratches skips or jumps that affect play on our Rega 3
Very very good for a 51 year old original!

(we can only see these rising and good copies often pop up for sale on eBay for £700 +)

Side 1 has Matrix XEX 605-2 and also is in great order with spindle marks and light hairlines only, this is a genuine mono 1st pressing from 1966, there is only one version, later ones 605-3 etc are 2nd and subsequent presses, none of the later stereo versions have remix 11, remix 8 was substituted.

Overall nr excellent for both sides, close to excellent.
