THE BEATLES - 'RUBBER SOUL'
1967/8 UK PARLOPHONE STEREO LP
**ULTRA-RARE BLACK STEREO COVER LOGO**
Contrary to normal practise at the time, EMI omitted the usual mono and stereo cover logos from this release.
However, an extremely limited number were produced with front black and silver stereo logos which were similar in size & type used on 'Revolver'.
These may have been for export purposes only as all copies I have had were originally purchased outside the UK.
Most likely produced in 1967/8, these covers housed not first, but second press (-3/-3) matrix discs. No mono covers were produced with logos.
The labels carry the 'Sold in UK..'text and 'Gramophone Co..' rims.
The 'KT' tax/price code is visible on the side 1 label.
Housed in a front laminated, tri-flipback Garrod & Lofthouse printed cover with the front BLACK stereo logo.
Complete with its original red & white EMI advertising inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: YEX 178-3 & YEX 179-3
Stamper numbers: 2/GH & 2/GM
Cover: VERY GOOD MINUS
The front panel bears some general light creasing & some damage to the lower left corner, but otherwise no major wear
There is some storage wear to the other corners and minor wear to the opening edges but no tears or feathering.
The rear panel is clean with no significant discolouration or marks and no writing or missing paper.
All flipbacks are intact and the seams are strong, unstressed & unsplit - as is the clearly worded spine.

Visual: VERY GOOD PLUS
Carefully handled & played the surfaces bear just a single light fingernail scuff on side 1 but no other significant marks or scratches.
Close inspection beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals an occaisional hairline scratch & some sleeve removal/paper hairlines.
Quality, sharp-edged, heavy vinyl which lies 100% flat on both sides with no dishing or warping.
Audio: VERY GOOD PLUS
Clean & bright sound throughout with just slight wear on 'Michelle' but no other significant deterioration to the sound.
There is an occaisional light tick on some tracks on side 2 but no jumps or repeats.
Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp.
All discs are carefully play graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck with an Ortofon Kontrapunkt 'A' cartridge.
