READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles’ Second Album 1965 LP JAX First Pressing Condensed Text on Labels, EX!

Jacksonville had strange ideas, regarding how to lay out their text copy on albums.  This is their first pressing after they’d gone online in the summer of 1965.

Two Jax variations exist.  First pressing labels crowded all the text around the playhole, for some reason.  Second pressing labels from 1968 spread the letters far and wide, leaving the playhole practically floating in space.  See Compere photo for that one.

This is the harder of the two to find.

Vinyl--- VG++/EX.  This copy is hard to grade. While each side only has two or maybe three very light lines, there are also those manufacturer’s marks that appear and vanish as you tilt the vinyl around under a bright light.  Those are beneath the grooves, and you won’t hear them.  The light lines are not feelable to the fingertip.

Plates--- W2/W2.  Machine-Stamped Letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- VG.  Both front and back covers have only light yellowing.  Back cover has moderate to heavy wear, though.  Spine has crackling and some spots of missing slick.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Labels--- EX/NM.  Both labels look nearly brand new.  Side 1 label has just a couple of VERY light spindle marks.  Side 2 label has none.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  One side of the sleeve has glue strips showing.  Light wrinkling and light record outdent.  Bottom seam has a two-inch center seam split.  Both side seams are very strong.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

If you’ve not been able to find one of these for your collection, this one is definitely a keeper!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
