READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles’ Second Album LP 1966 Late First Pressing with Weird In-House Labels, NM!
Very seldom-seen, not well-known Jacksonville labels. Likely pressed around 1966, these in-house labels feature the very odd-looking label copy with the font closely-crowded in around the playhole. The effect is that there’s an extraordinarily large gap between the bottom of the dome logo and the beginning of the text, as well as that same sized gap at the bottom of the label. Other Jacksonville in-house labels that use this micro text are spread out proportionately to the rest of Capitol’s layouts for their labels. You never see this one.
It’s also the copy that is pictured in my two-volume flash drive of rare Beatles album labels. If you care about American label variations you’ve never seen before, you should definitely pick up this set of volumes. Flash drives are compatible with most Mac and PC computers!
Vinyl--- NM/NM. Vinyl looks very close to unplayed. However; if you scrutinize the playing surface on Side 1, you will see one or two extremely lightly perceptible angel hair scratches. Otherwise, this copy is a stunner.
Plates--- W2/W2. (Having done my taxes last week…) Machine-stamped letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.
Cover--- VG. Uniform general wear to both sides. Light stain on the back, near the spine. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Labels--- NM/NM. Brand new-looking record labels look like they were just pri9nted this morning. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG. Original tan Capitol is present. Shows wear, mostly wrinkling. Very small bottom center seam split, maybe 1/8-inch long.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 9
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
