Description

Intro

Here we have a rare first pressing copy of The Beatles second album of 1963. This record is on the earliest 1N/1N/ matrix and has the incorrect ‘Jobete’ publisher credit for the track ‘Money’. It comes in a rare first pressing ‘dark cover’ EJ Day flipback sleeve with perhaps the most famous image of The Beatles ever taken. It has the ‘gotta’ spelling variation.

Cover:

This rare cover is in decent shape overall and rate Very Good. There are only one or two opening marks and some ringwear and creases to the edges of the front. The back is in reasonable shape with some writing (the name ‘Jane Eyre’), a little ringwear, handling marks and a part of the flipback section on the lower right has come free (with the EJDay text - see pics). It’s still a clean cover, free from grubbiness with no intrusive stains and many clean and white sections. There are no tears or seem splits.

Labels:

Both labels rate to EX condition. Both are free from writing or pen marks, the MT tax code is clear on side one. There are no grubby handling marks and all text is bold and striking. There are only minor spindle marks visible.

Vinyl:

Side one has moderate sleeve removal marks and several lighter hairline marks and rates VG minus. Side two has many hairline marks and rates Good plus. Please see attached pics. The vinyl still has a glossy sheen and is free from warping.

Audio

Given the surface marks to side two this records plays surprisingly well overall. To side one there is a little crackle during the quieter parts of the songs but the louder sections play well with no distortion and no invasive clicks, pops, jumps or skips and rate as VG.

Side two plays with a little more surface noise during the quieter parts of the first two tracks but then there is only very minor surface noise during the tracks. This includes during the quieter sections of ‘You Really Gotta Hold On Me’ and ‘Devil In Her Heart’ and even the deadwax between the tracks. The louder sections on this side are undistorted too and the sound is clear. This side rates as VG minus.

Mothers and stampers:

(side one) XEX 447 1N

(side two) XEX 448 1N

This record comes with it’s original softer inner sleeve in VG condition (see pics).

This record also comes with a specialised transparent sleeve for the front cover, and an extra plastic coverall free of charge.
