READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
Beatles-Rel. 1974 PROMO LP & 45 Shankar Family and Friends, Scarcer Version 2, EX!
Did you miss out on the colored vinyl Record Store Day release? No big deal, this issue is far rarer.
99.9% of Dark Horse promotional disclaimers on the labels read either, “Promotion Copy Not For Sale” or “Promotional Copy, Not For Sale.” That includes copies distributed by A&M AND Warner Bros. right up to George’s last releases for the label, and their 12-inch promo singles.
In fact, the majority of promotional copies of this title also read, “Promotion Copy.” This is one of the very few copies that simply reads, “Not For Sale” on the labels.
If you think that’s a small thing, try and find one.
Want some fun facts on this one? If not, skip to the description.
1. Released in 1974, Dark Horse Records was then distributed by A&M Records. George and Ringo both play on the album, but as they were still under contract with Apple until January 1976, they had to go by pseudonyms, or face getting sued by EMI. So they appear as Hari Georgeson and Billy Shears.
2. Just a personal one, the line from “I Am Missing You” which goes “Though I can’t see you, I hear your flute all the while” sounds a lot like “I hear your foot on the wall,” as though Krishna is kicking the wall!
Vinyl--- EX/NM. Side 1 has a small, light scuff through the first cut, otherwise it looks unplayed. Side 2 is NM, unplayed-looking.
Plates--- A&M SP22003-S/P2/ A&M SP22003-S/P 8 1A.
Cover--- EX. Bottom seam has shelfwear, otherwise this cover is a stunning NM. Small promo punch in the upper right-hand corner. Grey rectangular promo sticker on the back cover, upper right corner. NO SPLITS.
Insert--- NM. Bright, full-colors and shiny! Lays perfectly flat. Promo hole punch in the bottom right corner. This copy looks exactly as if it’s never been handled, apart from my photographing it.
Labels--- NM/NM. 1974-brand new-looking labels. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Inner Sleeve--- Gorgeous NM. Dark Horse company inner sleeves were only issued with the short-lived A&M copies. This one is perfectly flat, maybe one light wrinkle on the entire sleeve. Promo hole punch shows that this is the sleeve issued with this copy originally. NO SEAM SPLITS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Dark Horse company inner sleeve en route.
A stunning beauty of this far scarcer version!
PROMO 45: I Am Missing You MONO/STEREO
Vinyl--- VG+/VG+. Both sides are very close to EX! Light lines only, and only very short ones at that.
Plates--- A&M I000IM-S2/ A&M I000IS-S3
Labels--- VG+/VG+. Light label damage to the outer edges, both sides. See photos.
Sleeve--- Generic white.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
