Beatles-Related 2-Lot 1965 Historically Important First Pressing British 45’s!

I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

If you care about significant aspects of The Beatles’ history, then here are two 45’s by people who were important to The Beatles’ development.  Both are extremely difficult to find in England, much less in the U.S.

A Hard Day’s Night/Help!--- Peter Sellers

For those unfamiliar, Peter Sellers was a member of a comedy troupe from the late 50’s and early 60’s, called The Goon Show, or “The Goons,” as they were nicknamed.  They were the precursors to the 1970’s “Monty Python.”  Since John was a kid, he had been a great fan of The Goons, who made comedy albums that had influenced his own wacky sense of humor, as well as his writings.  The huge bonus for John when they were signed to Parlophone is that The Goons’ records were produced by none other than George Martin for the label.

In 1965, member Peter Sellers recorded comedy versions of a handful of Beatles tunes.  Some remained unreleased until the 1990’s, well after their deaths.  But this 45 did make it out.  To you, it would have been the same thing as if you had put out a 45, and John Lennon covered it.  As Lennon put it, “this was pretty far out for a little sh*t kicker from Liverpool.” 

*Of course, Peter Sellers was the actor who, less than a year prior, had appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove,” and who was then doing the Pink Panther movies.

Vinyl:  EX/EX.  Both sides have just a small handful of extremely light hairlines. 

Labels: NM/NM.  Both labels look brand new!  Center plug is still intact with the 1965 tax code information.

Plates: 7XCE 18345/7XCE 18346.  This is the original mono mix.  Stereo matrices were 7YCE.

Sleeve:  Generic white, NO SPLIT SEAMS.

I’ll Follow the Sun/I’ll Take You Dancing--- Glyn Johns

For those unfamiliar, Glyn Johns was one of the single-most important producers of the 60’s and 70’s, yet many people have never heard of him.  Here’s just a partial list of some of the artists whose records he produced and/or engineered:

*The Beatles

*The Stones

*Led Zeppelin

*Bob Dylan

*The Who

*Eric Clapton

*The Steve Miller Band

*Small Faces

*The Kinks

*Blue Oyster Cult

And a ton of others.  Glyn was heavily involved with the Get Back sessions, and if you’re lucky enough to have access to either the Nagra tapes or the unreleased footage from the “Let It Be” film, you can hear each of the Beatles talking with him at one point or another.   He appears in Peter Jackson’s incredible epic release of the “Get Back/Let It Be” film.  

Glyn was the one who had produced the first pass at the Get Back album, which has circulated as a boot since the late 60’s.

Glyn got his illustrious start with this obscure 45, which was a cover version of The Beatles’ “I’ll Follow the Sun.”  It sold so few commercial copies that it’s more likely that you will find this British promo first, if you look long enough and hard enough.  Seldom-seen, this promo is as rare as any Beatles promo, and the commercial copies are even scarcer.

This copy isn’t NM, but I’m pleased to be able to offer it for sale after having found my keeper copy 4 decades after having found this one.

Vinyl: Strong VG.  Both sides have a respectable, but certainly not overbearing amount of hairline scratches, and 2 or 3 non-feelable short and light scuffs.

Labels: Strong VG+.  I’d like to stretch that grade to EX for my own ego, but they do have a very light dirtwear to them both.  NO SPINDLE MARKS.

Plates: 45XX 1818 A2/ 45XX 1818 B2.  (Oddly enough, 1818 was the number assigned to John’s Apple single, “Instant Karma” 5 years later!)

Sleeve:  VG+.  Some wear, NO SEAM SPLITS.

A generic sleeve will be provided to protect your company sleeve during shipping.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.
