Beethoven Piano Concertos 1 & 2 Backhaus UK Decca SXL 2178
Wilhelm Backhaus with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt performs the Piano Concertos 1 and 2 of Beethoven. An English stereo pressing on the Decca Label (SXL 2178 stampers 1E/1E, the labels have "Original Recording by.." at 10 o’clock, a full frequency stereophonic sound fatband and logo and a groove. The record has some scuffs at the start of side one that do not sound and five or six small pressings mounds (fairly common in early Decca pressings) that "thump" softly on occasion, and is of otherwise excellent appearance, and plays and sounds superb with occasional surface noise. The cover has rubbed badly with a ring and some creases. The foldovers on the back have cut-outs.
