Beethoven Symphony 9 Fricsay DGG SLPM 2 LPs
Irmgard Seefried, Maureen Forrester, Ernst Haefliger, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau Cathedral with St. Hedwig Choir and the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Ferenc Fricsay perform the Beethoven, “Symphony No. 9”. A two record set, this is a German stereo pressing on the Deutsche Grammophon Label (SLPM 138 002/3), the labels have a tulip border and logo, with “alle hersteller” at 2 o’clock and this is a pancake pressing. Records one has some scuffs (spindle damage?) that do not sound, and it is of very good appearance and plays and sounds superb some low-level surface noise. Records two is excellent. The cloth box and gilt lettering are immaculate, although the gilt on the spine edge has faded a little, and the back is a little grubby. The booklet is excellent.
