I've been collecting records for the past 20 years and have accumulated way too many.
Now with my wife pregnant, I have been told to get rid of them all to make space for a baby.

Interesting points - Really rare! This is the first pressing of this album. I've seen others on ebay that have been wrongly advertised. Here's a link to a website dedicated to Vertigo Swirl records, You will find that the matrix numbers of my album match theirs:

The inner sleeve has the numbers 25 0671, which indicates the time of release of this specific record was June 1971 (please see picture)
I examine all of my records directly under a 100 watt bulb, and so a lot of the marks I notice, will be unnoticeable in daylight.
Vinyl condition - The condition of this record would be EX+ if not for two problems. The majority of the album is in fantastic condition with only very faint surface marks noticeable when examining directly under a light. Unfortunately side one has non feelable noticeable abrasion over track 1. However this does not affect playback at all, I heard only a handful of almost inaudible crackles (see picture). Side two has a light scratch through track one and two thirds of track two. The scratch becomes audible at the end of track one with only 33 seconds of the track remaining, and at this point only causes a light crackle at a rate of one per revolution, but is more audible throughout quieter passages and silence. Throughout track two the volume of the crackle is up and down and at times could be considered a light tic, but generally speaking is only noticeable throughout the quieter passages and silence. Approximately, the last ninety seconds of the scratch, would be considered a tic. The scratch is audible for 5 minutes and 24 seconds. Very frustrating considering the near perfection of the rest of the album. An example of its condition is the spindle hole and its resistance to fall into position on the record player from through lack of use. It’s a tricky one to grade but I think EX- is a fair assumption. I have included pictures of the abrasion and scratch from correctly angleing the record directly under a light bulb whilst using a strong flash.
Gatefold sleeve condition - This is a good strong sleeve. It shows signs of shelf wear around the edges but nothing too bad. The corners are a bit worn and feathered. The spine is nice, the inside is nice. The back of the sleeve shows signs of light ring wear which has subsequently faded the paint. Has one scuff on the front of the sleeve. VG+

Grading:
Being a collector myself, the grading system I employ is probably slightly more critical than someone who buys records to sell them. Collecting and researching vinyl has taken up a lot of life, just like it has probably taken up a lot of yours. I will be using the Record Collector system as my guide, but will include as much information as I feel necessary to describe my item.
I will never grade anything as Mint, as I don't believe it exists.
Near Mint would have to be sealed for my liking.
Excellent+ is virtually unplayed.
Excellent- shows scarce signs of being used.
Excellent - can show a few surface marks but nothing consequential. Very light background noise.
VG+ can have surface marks, scarce non feelable abrasion. Light background noise in quieter passages, and infrequent tics.
VG can have surface marks, non feelable abrasion, the odd light scratch. Inconsequential background noise, occasional tics. Nothing which will ultimately get in the way of the listening experience.
VG- same as above but more so.
Good damage to the record is becoming clear. Audibly and cosmetically, the record has seen better days. Possibly even jumps occasionally
Good- getting a bit too much to handle. The longevity of your stylus starts to become more important than the songs you are listening to.
Average get it in the bin. Don’t bother with it. Just the sight of it gets on your nerves. You think it might be ok with a clean, but it never is. It's making me a bit sick thinking about it.
Poor not even worth buying off a carbootsale for 50p.
Notice how I don't include Good+, Average+, Average-. The reason for this is because I don't really deal with records in that state.
