Description

Maria Callas is legendary for her performances of Bellini's Norma. This 1953 recording catches her in her vocal prime, in better voice than on her later 1960 recording with the same conductor.
Basically, you should almost always want to have Callas' interpretation of your favorite operas in your collection because she somehow transcends merely singing the role beautifully and actually brings the character to life. In other words, she's the finest actress in opera and brings psychological complexity and dignity to her performances. Now, I never like to promise perfection with records: to me the occasional click or pop is simply expected if you are buy vintage recordings. However, I'm listening to side 3 as I write and it truly sounds close to perfect and the other sides look excellent as well.
