Description
Hi Folks. Up for auction is a copy of Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra on Victor 23384
Titles are: "Moten's Swing/Toby"
This is from the legendary recording session of 12/32. The band is the nucleus of the great Count Basie orchestra and swings it's tail off. Moten Swing features a riff chorus to conclude it that remains in use in many arrangements to this day. "Toby" is one of the hottest, swingingest 78's ever made. Great solos galore from this fine territory band. This is a "desert island" 78, on the extremely rare original Victor 23300 "race" series to boot. I can't recall what the actual number is for the "78 Quarterly" as to how many are in existance, but I can say that any number past twelve or fifteen would be pushing it.
There is a very real possibility that this issue will not be offered for sale again in a time span that you could measure in years
Condition is V++ Unfortunately, there is a scratch and dig towards the end of "Moten Swing" that plays through, but sounds. Apparently, someone else along the way with slippery fingers liked the riff chorus, too. "Toby" plays fine with a modicum of surface noise, nothing distracting.
If you don't have it, you'll want to get it.
