Description

Two 78 rpm acetate discs with gold foil labels, featuring a CBS broadcast from the Palomar Ballroom in Los Angeles, July 16, 1936 according to the label. Helen Ward is the featured vocalist. The sides are marked 3-6, indicating that this was originally a set of three of which the first disc is lacking. The concert includes an early, formative version of "Sing, Sing, Sing" which includes a Helen Ward vocal and different sections from the familiar version. Overall the discs are in VG condition -- clean with minor blemishes -- though the lacquer in the first inch of side 6 is beginning to loosen up; it plays through, but it is rough ride. The rest is surprisingly good in terms of sound quality, though quiet and a mite tinny; there are also some long breaks where the source records are changed without stopping the cutter; each side runs about 10 minutes.

The spindle holes are a little smaller than average; one must not force these down over the spindle -- a suggestion would be to play them on top of another record.
