Description
Here is "Stealin' Apples" b/w "Dardanalla" by Benny Goodman. Recorded at Samuel Goldwyn Studios for the classic 1948 film "A Song Is Born". 78 rpm 12 inch acetate disc features alternate version of "Stealin' Apples". In the film there is dialogue during the performance of the tune. This version is the music sans dialogue. It is very "hot" and features some jazz-like clarinet and vibes. Really uptempo and loose, most likely a rehearsal. There is a recording engineer's voice at the beginning stating the project number. "Dardanalla" is an old standard covered here by Goodman in a very jazzy approach. Lot's of crazy clarinet! I have not been able to find a studio version of "Dardanalla" by him and it is not used in the film so it is most likely unreleased. Both sides of the disc has a powdery film from age. I have cleaned it up the best I can. There is some noise throughout the songs on both sides but no skips. Amazing quality, though. I am going to have the songs professionally cleaned up with noise reduction and transferred to an MP3 file. I will include the file to the buyer of the acetate.
