ABOUT THE RECORD Yale Archives - Volume 6 is a collection of jazz recordings of the late Benny Goodman. These are, according to Discogs' notes: "Rare recordings from the Yale University Music Library." When Benny Goodman died in 1986, his will stipulated that all his remaining jazz arrangements and recordings be donated to Yale University and his favorite back brace to Loren Schoenberg. Schoenberg was the obvious choice to appraise the Goodman Archives, and Yale later hired him to help curate the collection. This recording was compiled by Schoenberg whose liner notes begin with these phrases: "For all his talents as the leader of a crack big band and as a classical clarinetist, Benny Goodman remained at heart a hot jazz player. These recordings, culled from two engagements at the Rainbow Grill in New York's Rockefeller Center, contain many examples of this facet at the core of Benny's artistry."
