Description
Wow, check this out: a seven inch Berliner Gramophone record, 1699Z. Gus Terrell sings the song "The Chimes of Trinity", with piano. Nice singing, cute song. The record plays quite well, there is surface noise that improves later in the disc, the piano sounds like a "toy" piano, typical of early recordings.
I've researched this record in Sherman's "Collector's Guide to Victor Records". The record number, light script, and five patent dates are consistent with Berliners made in 1896! Berliner sold about 2 million records between 1894 and 1900, with perhaps 1% surviving today. 65% of this production was in 1898 and 1899, with only about 100,000 records made in 1896. This disc is incredibly rare, possibly the only copy existing of this record. If you like these, don't pass it up!
