BERLINER 7" GRAMOPHONE RECORD - RECORDED OCTOBER 1899!
I SELL ONLY IN THE U.K.
Yes, this 7" single sided disc was recorded in1899 - Cat No.54; matrix No. 3923.
Played by (Queen Victoria's!) Grenadier Guards Band under Mr. Miller, we have:
"LaCigale" (Audran):"MarketChorus".
1899 is only the second year of the issue of disc records in the U.K. by The Gramophone Company, which was, of course, later to become His Master’s Voice.
This disc will play right through using a modern 0.0025" conical stylus in a Shure M75 cartridge. But if you have an 0.002" Truncated Elliptical,that will give rather better results. There is a slight dig which does not skip on my turntable (a Kam DDX5000) but will tick for about 7 or 8 revolutions. (Hear some of it at https://youtu.be/acCiLzQzoys). Discs this old & are now hoarded, more than offered for sale!
