Description
Bernard Smith & Jokers Wild Gotta Be A Reason (vocal) Gotta Be A Reason (Instrumental) Groove 504
The group was from Richmond, Virginia and recorded this at Edgewood in Washington, D.C. on March 5, 1968. The standard independent run of 500 copies were pressed but poorly marketed by the group. Those first run 45s are scarce and high dollar. This release may be an improvement over the original. In 2005 this mix was overseen by Martin Gary who produced the band on that recording date back in the Sixties. The balance is the same, but this mix clocks in at 2:57 - an extension of almost 20 seconds. The excitement that was hinted at during the fade of the original release is brought back to life from the 4-track master tape. Bernard Smith burns on here. The instrumental version brings more evidence to what fine musicians the mostly teenage Jokers Wild were. Note that the time on the B-side is 3:03, a bit longer then the vocal version. This issue was limited to 250 copies. Not a Sixties original, but not really a reissue, as it is an extended version and one that has the blessings of all the Jokers Wild who are still with us.
