Description
Bernie and Joe, rare private issue folk and folk-rock.
I have never seen these outside of the Colorado region; very limited pressing.
2 LPs from Bernie and Joe are offered in this auction:
Bernie & Joe, Blue on the Sky, Rainfall Records 1001, Louisville, CO, 1977
They perform as a vocal duo on this LP. They accompany themselves on acoustic guitars. This is a very fine acoustic folk session, showing influences as diverse as Crosby, Stills & Nash to James Taylor to Simon & Garfunkel. The performances are seriously accomplished. Their voices are an excellent match; they blend them well through the careful harmony arrangements. Their intonation is excellent. I didn't hear a single false note or uncertain pitch through the entire LP. The guitar playing is equally accomplished. The use both picking patterns and strumming patterns. The song writing is very good, too. The melodies are nice and the song structures are fresh and original.

LP: VG+ Side 1 track 1 has a scuff across the length of the track which ticks very faintly, disappearing at times beneath the music; track 2 is partly affected by the same scuff, but the ticking ends just after the beginning of this track. The remainder of the side plays with a few light ticks, none repeating and with very light surface rush typical of LPs pressed during this era. Side 2 plays M-/VG+ with clean surfaces, a few light random ticks and very light surface rush typical of LPs pressed during this era. Visually, both sides appear clean and free of wear (except for the single scuff on side 1) with full lustre and gloss.
Jacket: VG+ Still in factory shrink wrap; clean and clear with bright graphics and color; artist name, LP title and record company serial number text on the spine is perfectly centered; with little to no sign of wear; light outward bowing of cardboard at jacket top (visible in photo), very slight evidence of contact with moisture at left edge (visible on back, too) shows as slight puckering of paper paste-on (there is NO staining seen); slight aging at right edge of jacket. (No deletion cuts, notches, punches; no shop wear, ring wear, edge wear, split seams or other wear).

Bernie & Joe Band, Winter Horizon, Rainfall Records 1002, Louisville, CO, 1977
This LP continues in a similar manner on the "Soft Side" (side 1 of the LP). Again they accompany themselves on acoustic guitars in a fine acoustic folk session, which also shows the influence of Crosby, Stills & Nash, James Taylor and Simon & Garfunkel. Their voices are well matched and are mixed to reveal the nice blend Bernie and Joe create. The harmonies are tight and interesting-- no flat or sharp harmonies or solo vocals to be heard. Very good guitar playing throughout. Track 3 is very close to channeling something very like a classic Elektra folk release from 1967; tracks 4 and 6 are slightly marred by a dated synth part. No synth found on the any other track, though.
Side 2 is titled the "Hard Side" and it features a full electric rock band. Here is something like a cross between Yacht Rock and a pop psych date. Track one is a bluegrass-influenced number; track two has careful harmony vocals like a CSNY track; track three is a rougher slow rocker (actually is its a blues, but without the blues feel) with catchy vocals and a B section that is outside of the blues form; track four is distinctly Loggins and Messina in its influence with an island breeze Yacht Rock feel; track five is a nice pop psych tune with distorted guitar; track 5 features a Simon & Garfunkel style harmony over a pop psych blues boogie with strange guitar and bass riffing integrated.

LP: VG+ with a couple of light scuffs which do not affect play (the Hard Side has a scuff which ticks very, very faintly as it is masked by the music); both sides plays with a few light ticks, none repeating and with very light surface rush typical of LPs pressed during this era. Visually, both sides show nice lustre and minimal signs of use.

About For the Records
I have been a record dealer for 23 years and an eBay member since 1999. I retired from listing items on eBay in 2003 because of my involvement in a retail store in Boulder, Colorado. Recently, the store was forced to close because the building was sold for demolition and redevelopment. I am now back on eBay offering high-quality items, carefully chosen and accurately described. Please bid with confidence.
