redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Columbia Masterworks (MS 6140, US pressing, gray/black 6eye label – ED1, stereo) features Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra’s searing account of Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra Sz 116, recorded in the warm acoustics of the St. George Hotel, Brookly, on 30 November 1959. The New Yorkers play with outsize virtuosity and a gleaming sheen of sound – a wonderful performance from first bar to last.
Incidentally, the striking cover art collage was designed by Philip Featheringill. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Roberta London, printed in English only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and very striking in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is truly superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
