Description
Offered here is a factory-sealed copy of Big Bill Broonzy’s The Blues, released in 1965 on Scepter Records’ Scepter Supreme Jazz and Folk Series, catalog number M-529 (mono). The album collects blues, spirituals, and work songs recorded in Paris in 1951 and 1952, featuring Broonzy solo on vocals and guitar performing “Louise, Louise Blues,” “Do Right Blues,” “Down By the Riverside,” “John Henry,” “Lonesome Road Blues,” and eight other tracks drawn from his European sessions. The cover painting and design are by Burt Goldblatt, whose work is well known among jazz and blues collectors, and the back jacket carries liner notes by Miami radio broadcaster Wildman Steve along with the original manufacturer’s list price sticker of $4.79, marked down to a special sale price of $1.57, a nice period detail that helps anchor the copy to its original retail era.
The record remains in its original shrinkwrap and has never been played. That said, the shrink is not flawless: there is a visible puncture and tear in the wrap at the upper front corner, over the “BIG” of the title, along with some soiling.
