Description
Big Star #1 Record Original 1st press Ardent Records ADS 2803 1972. Vinyl VG+ and labels are NM. Note: There are two skips in track 1 on side 2 ("When My Baby's Beside Me"). Not sure if a thorough cleaning will remove them. The starting bid has been adjusted accordingly. The fully laminated cover made of thick, heavy card stock is graded VG+. No tears, writing or seam splits. About 1/2" laminate separation to the front cover in the lower right hand corner but laminate is fully intact. Saw cut along top edge designating either cut out or promo. Some light record impression/cover wear evident and corner tip wear. Original white paper inner sleeve with age appropriate mellowing but with no seam splits. STXS-0178-5; AS-0401 is inscribed in side one runout groove. STXS-0261-6; AS-0406-RR and the all important "THE MORE YOU LEARN THE LESS YOU KNOW" is inscribed in the side two runout groove. According to Discogs: Promo side two runout grooves contains following
inscription: "The more you learn the less you know". First retail pressing. Contains Star symbol with "BIG" written in dead-wax on side one; contains planet Saturn with star in dead-wax on side two.
A nice (other than the skips in track 1 on side 2) original rare first pressing of this landmark album and not to be confused with the numerous re-issues! #1 Record suffered from poor distribution and sold fewer than 10,000 copies upon its initial release. It is now widely-regarded as a seminal work in pop rock and power pop. In 2020 it was ranked number 474 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
This record has been kept stored in a smoke free environment.
Check the pictures and feel free to message me with any questions. Guaranteed 100% authentic and not a reproduction of any kind. Will package securely for safe shipping. Record will be removed from the original sleeve and placed in a separate sleeve to prevent seam splits during shipping.
Please note shipping cost shown includes secure packaging and insurance for all items which usually adds $4-$5 depending on the value of the item to the shipping total but it's worth every penny. Items damaged or lost by the USPS are rare but this way we're covered against both.
Be sure to check my other listings for some other really nice items I've amassed in my over 30 years working in the movie and music business, many of which are not available anywhere else on eBay!
