Description
This is the 2004 Analogue Productions 2X45rpm vinyl release of Portrait in Jazz by Bill Evans. Not only does this one sound amazing, but it also has something unique to this release that is important. When this album was recorded, it was common practice to run two recordings simultaneously, one for mono and one for stereo. Problem is, the stereo tape has a 60cycle hum on it. The mono does not, but those tapes were destroyed in the mid 60s. This is the only active release that I am aware of that has dealt with that hum through the mastering process, you need either this one, or an original mono metalwork to not have to listen to it. Its an amazing album from the prime trio of Bill Evans, with Paul Motion and Scott LaFaro in the studio - what's not to like?
