Description

Bill Evans

"Portrait In Jazz"

Product

Record Grade: VG+

A few very light surface marks. Vinyl has a nice gloss. This was sold to me many years ago as a NM. VG+ I feel is a conservative grade.

Cover Grade: NM-

I can't imagine there are many covers like this one out there. It's nearly perfect. There's slight wear on the corners and to the frame. This truly a special set.

Shipping

My preferred shipping method will USPS Priority Mail.

Please reach out directly with any questions regarding this auction. This is a true first pressing of this album with no INC. on the labels.

Grading Scale

All records are visually graded under a very bright light. Will play grade on request. Please reach out if you have any specific questions regarding an auction item

NM
Appears unplayed and will bear no marks, sleeve scuffs, or scratches. This grade is very rarely used.

VG++
May have one or two visible imperfections (i.e. sleeve scuffs, faint scratches, or other superficial marks) that will not affect play.

VG+
A few visible imperfections. These may include sleeve scuffs, light scratches, or other superficial marks.

VG
Same imperfections found on VG+ records but in slightly greater numbers. Records graded VG and above will typically not have any scratches that are deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.

VG-
A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force a VG- grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.

G
Pervasive imperfections of varying degrees including both light scratches and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger and weaker copies within this range

Features and further details

Due diligence is taken into account to provide the most detailed description possible regarding this pressing. All records are crossed referenced with Discogs, details provided below:

  • Details: 1st press mono deep groove blue labels with no "Inc" after "Bill Grauer Productions" at bottom of labels.
  • 1st press cover is laminated with richer color tones, especially apparent in sharpness of Evans’s tortoise shell eyeglass frames and texture of striped tie. Later pressings are not laminated, and the colors are a bit more washed out/faded.
  • There is another release which has the mono deep groove blue labels but with the "Inc" after "Bill Grauer Productions"
  • Recorded in New York; December 28, 1959.
