It's Billie Holiday Week! I'll be auctioning about 60 original, Vintage Billie Holiday Records. LPs, EPs, 45's and 78's! If this is a 78, please read my paragraph (below) on grading 78s.
This is Blue Ace 227. Backing track is SOME OTHER SPRING. Original 10" 78 RPM Record. I'd grade this one VG+. A pretty fair amount of gloss; some fingerprints. Looks pretty Good.
I am used to grading LP records, but have only sporadically sold 78s, so I feel less secure in grading them. I do not have a 78 player, and therefore can't listen to them. I'll note glossiness, scratches, scuffs, pressing 'bumps' or blemishes; stickers etc as best I can. All these 78s came from the same collection. The original owner was a Jazz Musician (and later Postman!), who both listened to his records and kept them in decent shape. All were still in paper sleeves (though not necessarily the Original sleeve they came in), so they did not rub up against each other. Having seen quite a number of 78s in my time, I would say most are 'better than average', if that makes any sense, but generally they are not sparkling clean, unplayed collectors copies. These were listened to, but not abused (mostly!). Some are more 'average' condition with noticeable scratches etc and I'll note that. None are really trashed. I've assigned a letter grade to them, but I am less confident that 78 collectors will find them exactly accurate. If you note my recent LP feedback, you'll see that everyone has mostly been quite happy, but I feel my LP grading is pretty good.
Media Rate shipping with the US will be $4.00 for one or 2 Records. $1.00 each for any additional Record. US destination packages get Post Office delivery confirmation and tracking at no extra charge! International Priority Shipping will be $14.00 for one Record , except shipping to Canada which will be $8.00 for one. For more than one Record shipped Internationally add $4.00 for each DISC or in the case of Canada $2.00 for each extra disc. Records are shipped in cardboard LP shippers with some bubble wrap cushioning. I am a Used and Rare Bookseller by Trade, and have been packing and sending packages through the Mail for 30 years, so your record will be professionally packed! Shipping is via the US Post Office. If you need special handling or services, Inquire.
Items shipped to a California address MUST be charged 9.25% Sales Tax unless the buyer can supply a valid California Resale number. No exceptions!
I worked in a used Book and Records Store for over a dozen years and have handled and bought tens of thousands of records. While I am not a professional LP grader, I have sold LPs on eBay a number of times and have never had any complaints with my grading. I usually only buy and sell pretty clean examples as I don't want the hassle of dealing with returns. I grade by eye under a sufficiently bright light. The record grade is listed first, then the sleeve. My highest grade is NM (or maybe STILL SEALED, if you want to get picky about it). I usually don't mention minor scuffing from pulling the record in and out of the sleeve, minor spindle wear etc. I don't consider a mark on the record a SCRATCH unless I can feel it with my fingernail. My grading goes NM, Excellent, Very Good, Good etc. Very Good and above should play with little or no problems. All LPs are original issues unless stated otherwise. NO RECENT REISSUES unless stated!
