Description

Billy Fury Complete set of 11 Parlophone 7” vinyl records

These were issued between 1967 and 1970 and consist of all the records issued under this label.

Some of these recordings have never been issued on any CD reissues and others are only available on the hard to find LP ‘The Missing Years’, but the following give more details.

As these have not been played for many years I bought a new stylus to check on condition and I was pleased to find all of them in excellent condition – with unfortunately one exception.

When I played the track ‘Do my Best for You’, although it plays right through there was some really bad surface crackle sounds.  How this happened I really do not know as the reverse plays as well as all the rest.

The centrepiece as can be see in the picture is just about the most difficult single to find i.e. ‘Paradise Alley/Well Alright’.   In addition it is in the pre issue demo version in a frame measuring “13 x 15” and underneath is a small plaque with the words:                                               BILLY FURY

                                                                          ‘DEMO’

I have not checked this one as it is mint condition.

Details of the records are as follows:-

1967 Jan  Hurting is Loving   (Available only on this single and the

                                                 ‘Missing Years LP’

              (B side)   Things are Changing

1967 Jul   Loving You

(B side)    I’ll Go Along With It

1967 Sep  Suzanne in the Mirror (This version available only on this

                                                       single and ‘Missing Years LP’

and a Bowie Compilation of Songs

                                                       ‘Oh You Pretty Things’ CD)

(B side)   One Minute Woman   (Written by the BeeGees and only

available on this single and the

‘Missing Years’ LP – wrongly listed

as Lady on the track list)

1968 Sep    Phone Box (The Monkeys in the Jam Jar)

N.B. Some people including fans think

this is the daftest song he ever

recorded but I think it is quite a

catchy tune - and out of date in this age of mobile phones

                  (B side)    Any Morning Now

1968 Dec    Lady

                   (B side)   Certain Things

1969 Jul      I Call for my Rose      (Available only on this single and the

(B side)   Do my Best for You              (Unfortunately not so as mentioned earlier)

and only available on this single and the ‘Missing Years’ LP

1970 May    Why are you Leaving                             (Available on this single only)

(B side)   Old Sweet Roll                      (Available on this single only)

1970 Nov     Paradise Alley                      (Available on this single only)

(B side)  Well Alright                          (Well known Buddy Holly Song)

A few of these should have been hits a few years earlier but the music scene was changing and none of these Parlophone singles charted; which makes a lot of these records very hard to locate as not many were bought, though nowadays they are much more appreciated.

I felt in this 50th anniversary year of his first appearance on the Rock and Roll scene it was time these records went out for auction as they have lain dormant for many years.

Credit for some of the details above I would like to acknowledge came from the Billy Fury web site at billyfury.com.
