Billy Taylor Trio "Taylor Made Piano" 1957 Roost LP 2222 mono compilation. One side captures some live performances (limited fidelity live in the 50s), the other the trio in studio (sounding much better), all of it showing off the incredible Billy Taylor. Discogs tells us this is the first repress of the original, also in 1957, and the labels have been pasted on. But here's the thing, and something you won't see everyday. They're BACKWARDS, the label for side A pasted on side B, and vice versa. Did someone get fired for this? What a story there must be to tell. Sleeve is nice straight on, except for some minor de-lamination along the opening edge, very light scuff on back, some light corner damage (see photos), but also with very good edges, I'd say overall a Very Good plus (VG+) sleeve. Vinyl is visually almost pristine, but for a short and nasty scratch at the end of A1 that delivers an obvious click for about 15-20 seconds. The rest is mostly very clean, with a light scuff or scratch here and there delivering a light crackle or pop here and there, nothing obnoxious. Because of A1, I can't bring myself to rate this record higher than Very Good (VG). Because of the defects noted, weird and otherwise, you get a bargain on a highly sought after album. Just cleaned with a VPI wet-vac system. I'll pay the shipping via USPS Media Mail.
