Scrapper Blackwell, Black Bottom McPhail Vocalion 1690 - 78 RPM from 1932
Mix That Thing / My Dream Blues
Condition: Note: The biggest issue here is a crack! about two-three inches starting at the lead-in. It's a tight crack and doesn't seem to threaten the integrity as much as some cracks might. It's possible there is a cardboard core, as there is on some of these older 78s, holding it together? Anyway, the crack can be heard only very lightly for a bit of the start. See pictures.
Visually, pretty rough. The pictures are taken at an angle in the sunlight to show the most unflattering possible view. As you can see, some scuffs and marks, mostly superficial. A little greying. One side of the label has some kind of red stain. Wine? Visual grade would be on the Good to V- continuum.
Play grade: It plays pretty well, considering the visual. The music overpowers static for the most part. Light distortion in spots. Pre-war 78s tend to be a little more muted and this one is no different. Still, pretty nice sound overall. Play grade a solid V.

Amazing music! How many of these are out there? A piece of history for sure. McPhail only recorded 10 sides apparently. Pretty rare. Also, it occurs to me Hank Williams borrows the tune to "Mix that Thing" for "You Better Keep it On Your Mind."
