Black Sabbath’s classic first album on the original UK FIRST PRESS Vertigo LARGE SWIRL white label. Later pressings have the more common SMALL swirl on the white label. Catalogue number VO 6 847 903 VTY. The EARLIEST UK FIRST PRESS matrices are VO6 1Y * 1 / VO6 2Y * 1. From the ominous intro of the tolling bell, falling rain and distant thunder, this is the album that defined ‘Heavy Rock’ and later would ignite the whole ‘Metal’ genre. This earliest FIRST UK PRESSING still sounds FANTASTIC today !! Tony Iommi’s detuned, sledgehammer guitar riffs and Ozzy’s doom laden vocals dominate proceedings and announce Sabbath as the undoubted Masters of their Dark Art ! This superb copy still sounds absolutely HUGE and VERY, VERY HEAVY !! Even by todays multitracked standards ! The vinyl is in virtually UNMARKED PRISTINE condition and has a just pressed glossy sheen. The audio quality is amazingly clear and powerful and delivered with absolutely NO DISTORTION !! So much better than on later pressings and weak sounding re-issues on other labels. I counted ONLY TWO clicks throught the whole record and only a FEW SECONDS of barely audible surface crackle in two of the quietest passages. This really is one of the best copies I’ve ever heard !! The vinyl has got to grade at least as NEAR MINT. The Sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition with just a very little wear to the bottom and corners and has NO TEARS OR SPLITS. The spine is almost perfect. The record comes with the ORIGINAL SWIRL INNER which is also in EXCELLENT condition with very little browning. An altogether FANTASTIC example of this classic rock album and one that you would be hard pushed to beat !!
