Matrix : WWA005 scored out ACB00166 1Y- 2Y etched into groove
This is a rare UK press of 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' by Black Sabbath with WWA 005 on the cover and WWA 005 on the label underneath the ACB00166. The matrix has WWA 005 scored out on both sides and ACB00166 1Y on side 1 and ACB00166 2Y on side 2 etched into the run out groooves. The sleeve is the very first issue gatefold over with WWA 005 super de luxe printed on the back top right corner and WWA 005 on the spine. The back has the unique text of 'Manufactured and Printed in England (as per the first uk press), and the inner cover is blank as per the second pressing.
This album was their first not on Vertigo as they moved to a Phillips subsidiary label WEA. WEA were taken over by NEMS and in between that and during the pre-release pressings the catalogue number was changed to ACB. The pressing sequence was underway at Phillips plant and World Wide Artists complicated matters by starting another catalogue and matrix number while this album was being pressed for the scheduled December 1973 release.
The record labels now had both WWA005 and ACB 00166 printed above the centre holes. For the matrices WWA was crossed out and ACB 00166 was hand etched on. This confusing configuration with two different catalogue numbers and the transformation of the matrices positively happened during the intital pre release pressing
There is no Rick Wakeman credit anywhere on cover, label or inner sleeve.
The record is in Very Good condition and plays well. The label has the white and silver writing. The inner sleeve has my name and the name of the artist and album written on from my younger days as I am not a professional dealer and this record was bought by myself when new.
The matt gatefold sleeve is in Very Good condition. The black is fading slightly on the bottom front of the cover. The inside is in completely clean, immaculate condition. The opening edge is firm and the spine has clear text. Please see pictures above
I am currently converting my vinyl collection to CD and this is why the album is for sale along with others as they are converted. There is no other reason that it is for sale.
