Description

Original UK Vertigo label stereo press LP.

The eighth and final album by Black Sabbath (before Ozzy quit) and released in September 1978. It was recorded in Toronto, and according to Tony Iommi, "we had this cinema that we'd go into at 10 o'clock in the morning and it was freezing cold; it was in the heart of winter there, really awful. We'd be there, trying to write songs during the day and go and record them at night". The sleeve was designed by Hipgnosis and features modern American pilots, with ghost pilots in the clouds. Ozzy had already quit the band before recording started and ex-Savoy Brown Dave Walker was brought in and co-wrote some songs. when Ozzy returned he refused to sing some of these tracks, so Bill ward sang some and others became instrumentals!!

This is the original first pressing with the Vertigo spaceship labels and the lyric inner, with the early 1Y//1 2Y//2 matrices & 1-1- stampers.
The fully laminated sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and very light storage rubbing/creasing on the outer cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, the lyric inner is intact, with some foxing and some storage rubbing & in VG+ condition.   The record is in visually EX condition, with no nasty marks or scratches and only a few faint & wispy hairlines and a couple of light needle marks and scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, undamaged, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud crackle, pops or hiss & no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some light background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages. Overall, it is a really, great loud & clear listen.
The matrix nos. are; 9102751, 1Y//1 STR mother stamper 1-1-8, 2Y//2 STR mother stamper 1-1-13. This is one of the early 1st pressings of the original 1978 UK stereo 1st issue of this album!
