Rare Original UK Promo 3rd Press LP released in 1970 on the Vertigo Swirl label. Comes in gatefold sleeve. Comes with original Vertigo printed inner bag which has a tear on top left corner and is in VG condition. Matrix numbers are: V0 6 1Y * 1 420 12 16/ VO 6 2Y * 420 12 13. Features Promo sticker on label and Promo stamp on back of cover.
Black Sabbath's debut album is the birth of heavy metal as we now know it. Compatriots like Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple were already setting new standards for volume and heaviness in the realms of psychedelia, blues-rock, and prog rock. Yet of these metal pioneers, Sabbath are the only one whose sound today remains instantly recognizable as heavy metal, even after decades of evolution in the genre. Circumstance certainly played some role in the birth of this musical revolution the sonic ugliness reflecting the bleak industrial nightmare of Birmingham; guitarist Tony Iommi's loss of two fingertips, which required him to play slower and to slacken the strings by tuning his guitar down, thus creating Sabbath's signature style. These qualities set the band apart, but they weren't wholly why this debut album transcends its clear roots in blues-rock and psychedelia to become something more. Sabbath's genius was finding the hidden malevolence in the blues, and then bludgeoning the listener over the head with it.

There are a few light spindle marks on labels. Record has some scuff marks and light scratches that cause some crackles in parts, side 2 track one has clicks for three rotations halfway through track, there is also a scratch that cause light clicks from end of solo track two until after 1st verse track three and also light clicks for 11 rotations at around 6 minutes. Record does not skip or jump. Despite the clicks it is still an amzing sounding pressing pretty close to ground zero and a Promo edition to boot. Record is graded at VG condition. Matt gatefold cover is in amazing condition with only minor scuffing on corners and a few very tinys ruafce tears around edges and is in Excellent condition.
Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
