Description
An original 1st press of PARANOID on the UK Vertigo label. Matrix 1/1 - absolute 1st cut. Note, and this is really important on this particular title, the label is a LARGE VERTIGO SWIRL label - with 'Vertigo' residing at the foot of the label. THESE are the early copies available at 1st release. Please note it is possible to find copies with a "Big Bear" credit in the gatefold cover. THIS IS NOT that version. The vinyl comes housed, here, in a revised gatefold cover WITHOUT "Big Bear" credit. Also included is the original Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve date coded to '0970'- September is the month of release for this title. So, this copy would have been available for purchase whilst riding high in the charts. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete. The LP will ship in an anti-static inner sleeve to protect it and the original inner during transit.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In truly remarkable condition for a 1970 copy - particularly given that it's Sabbath. I think I'm correct in saying that I have never seen any early Vertigo pressing looking quite this lightly used. And given this is Sabbath - I'd say that makes it doubly unusual..look closely at those label shots!. Under close inspection I'm struggling to make out anything more than a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Without doubt one of the best renditions I've ever witnessed. It's not all that difficult to find an 'OK' playing copy of Paranoid. It is forgiving in that the sheer power of Sabbath often overpowers anything in the background. But if you're someone who really wants to appreciate those quiet moments [and they are there!] then you need to look for an unusually well preserved copy like this one. Want to hear those base notes as 'Hand of Doom' starts.. with the tap tap intricate drumming from Bill? Then many copies just will not be up to the task. What about 'Planet Caravan'? This track is super fussy and under-performs on all copies. I'm detecting the odd crackle here and there - but it's minor and playback in this track is better than anything I've witnessed before [on what is a super-fussy track]. Be realistic though..throughout the LP you will detect the odd [isolated] crackle in the occasional isolated spot. E.g. closing outro to 'Electric Funeral'. And possibly one slight solitary isolated tick per side. But I'd argue this is pretty much as clean a 1st press as you're ever likely to witness. And if you need to hear this classic title on UK Vertigo then you'd be mad not to seriously consider this copy. I have it cranked right up...'Fairies Wear Boots' - is truly amazing. You can really hear everything in the mix with total clarity.
Cover (Ex-) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl, but still in very impressive condition. First thing is the front and back are not exhibiting the usual heavy surface wear. They are very nice and flat with little surface wear and hardly any creasing [which is unusual in itself]. The interior looks superb with, perhaps, just some lightest ageing. There's a bit of edge wear in the odd spot - nothing excessive [and less than you typically find]. The spine looks great with a touch of wear in a couple of spots. The text is pretty much all legible though. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) One inch side split both sides. A bit aged in places. But still pretty nice looking.
