Description
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
LP, Album, Gatefold | Philips (Nippon Phonogram) | Cat. No. SFX-7266 (6360 011) | Japan | 1970
Japan initial first release of one of the defining albums of heavy metal — Paranoid contains War Pigs , Iron Man , Paranoid , Planet Caravan , Hand Of Doom , and Fairies Wear Boots across eight tracks that essentially invented the genre. Produced by Rodger Bain; written entirely by Iommi, Osbourne, Butler, and Ward. Manufactured by Nippon Phonogram Co. Ltd., Tokyo on the generic blue Philips label (SFX-7266). Like the original UK Vertigo pressing, this comes in a gatefold sleeve — the Japanese version features a white interior with tracklist and durations in English, Japanese liner notes by Tsuneo O'Mori, and English lyrics. Includes the original obi strip (¥1,950 printed) and a "Do It Rock" Nippon Phonogram insert sheet with monochrome album cover photos. Note: the Vertigo swirl symbol appears on the obi as a homage; the distributing label is Philips/Nippon Phonogram. The vinyl itself is black translucent when held to a strong light source.
