This is an original UK 1st press. Not to be confused with other less valuable pressings. There are a lot of copies about produced in other countries which are hard to tell apart as they still have the same vertigo swirl design and the country of pressing is not mentioned on the label – the UK cover manufacturer identifies this as a UK copy

Condition (1-5) Vinyl / Cover = 4.00/3.75

Notes: The vinyl has some light surface marks / scuffs when viewed tilted in strong light.  In normal light it still retains a gloss and looks pretty close to unmarked. Audio - there is no deterioration to the sound quality when played tested at a decent volume. I have listened to many original vertigo copies and while the quality of the sound itself is often superb, the downside is that, for some reason in my experience, they nearly always play with quite a lot of static, clicking, popping and skipping– even copies that visually look absolutely perfect / mint – (be very careful when paying out mega money for ‘mint’ copies that have only been visually graded – the only way to know how it will sound is to play test it!). This copy is one of the better examples I have heard. Plays right through with no skips or repeats. Sounds great with limited surface noise. Has a single small light scratch on the final track - deterioration in the sound quality for just a couple of seconds with a couple of light background clicks. Otherwise just the odd bit of light static crackle which is only audible between tracks and occasionally in just some quieter sections. This genuinely is light, occasional, never continuous, and never rises above background - at no point did it detract from my enjoyment at all during the play test. I am maybe being over critical due to value – I’m pretty much just describing how good vinyl sounds and after all the whole point is that it’s not supposed to sound like a CD! It has a lovely deep, warm sound that only comes from these original pressings. Played back to back with a later Nems repress, the difference is astonishing. So if you have never listened to an original vertigo swirl copy it’s highly recommended! All in all the vinyl is a nice example that sounds great and would probably rate higher if rated on audio alone (audio a little better than appearance). Cover is showing some general wear but no major damage - mostly just some of the usual rubbing to the surface and seams. The original matt unlaminated finish is super prone to wear and the cover was difficult to grade as almost all copies have the wear described above. In comparison to other copies I would say it is a nice example with the wear being quite a bit lighter than that seen on an average original cover. The inner gatefold is in very nice condition and not showing any discolouration or wear. The 4 page booklet is still attached and is in nice crisp condition. The cover has no major damage - no heavy creases, no tears, no seam splits, no writing and a fully readable spine. Inner cover – looks a bit tired with a couple of rips, some creasing and a couple of pen marks but is an original poly lined swirl inner. Record will also be sent in a new blank sleeve so you can take your pick. Labels. Undamaged, no writing

Rare and sought after UK 1st press vinyl from the legendary band. A decent copy that gives great audio. Honestly assessed with full play test (see above)

Grading:

 I will be grading critically to avoid disappointment. (scale at bottom of page) In my experience there is no such thing as a used record that has no marking at all, if you choose to look closely enough!  Hence nothing will be described as mint.

* Record has been play tested for at least a couple of tracks. I’ve been in contact with e-bayers who have already bought. They are very pleased with condition compared to what they expected from the grading and report excellent sound quality even from records listed as having heavier damage.

*Buy with confidence. I’m happy to offer a no argument refund should unexpected problems arise on playing or I’ve missed something in the description / grading (refund less postage on return of item within 7 days).

Grading Scale:

Vinyl

5 = Absolute minimal amount of ultra light, totally superficial surface hairlines / marks that are only visible when tilted under strong light. Expect no impact on audio. 4 =   Light surface marks / scratches. Some more visible but all still superficial. May include 1 small slightly heavier mark affecting a single track only. Still expect no or minimal impact on audio. 3 = Some heavier marks / scratches. Expect them to be audible and slightly detract from the overall listening experience. 2 = Heavy scratches / marks. Expect to hear pronounced and distracting clicks or cracks on at least couple of tracks. 1 = Several heavy scratched / marks / other damage. Expect several tracks to be affected and a couple to the extent that they may be considered unlistenable. However should still play through.

Covers

5 = Hardly any wear of any description. Maybe slightest of wear to very tip of a corner or a couple of ultra  light tiny edge creases which you would have to look very closely to see. 4 = Some general light wear and maybe a small area of moderate wear. Includes seam wear (spine still readable), light creasing restricted to edges, slight discolouration (but not damage) from a removed stickers, maybe 1 slightly crumpled corner. 3 = Moderate general wear plus 1 piece of damage such as a rip, seam split, heavily folded corner, major scuff on  front / back, patch of surface removed by sticker or very noticeable ringwear. 2 = Heavy general wear plus one or two pieces of damage. 1 = Several major issues – very tatty.

Inner covers

5 = Hardly any wear of any description. Maybe a couple of small spots of very light discolouration or a super light and small crease. 4 = Discolouration, general light wear, light creasing. 3 = Moderate general wear plus 1 piece of damage such a seam split or heavily folded corner. 2 = Heavy general wear plus one or two pieces of damage. 1 = Several major issues – very tatty. Not graded = bog standard blank inner sleeve.
