Additional info:

Genuine UK copy. Be careful not to confuse with other less valuable or sort after pressings. Pressing from other countries have the same label design and are very difficult to tell apart except for the full matrix numbers. This copy has the correct 420 matrix ending confirming it to be a UK original – all to easy to replace a poor vinyl with a non UK pressing

In addition to the 1Y1 / 2Y1 matrix numbers,  the ‘VERTIGO’ is below the hole on the label with a large swirl above the label indicating this is the earliest possible version of the vinyl (later versions have ‘Vertigo’ above the hole and a smaller swirl).

Condition (1-5) Vinyl / Cover = 4.25/ 3.75

Notes: vinyl is in very nice shape – no scratches and just a few super light marks / paper scuffs when viewed tilted in strong light – totally superficial. In normal the vinyl appears pretty much unmarked and retains the lovely dark gloss of lightly played vinyl. Audio - there is no deterioration to the sound quality when played tested at a decent volume. I have listened to many original vertigo copies and while the quality of the sound itself is often superb, the downside is that, for some reason in my experience, they nearly always play with quite a lot of static, clicking, popping and skipping– even copies that visually look absolutely perfect / mint – (be very careful when paying out mega money for ‘mint’ copies that have only been visually graded – the only way to know how it will sound is to play test it!). In comparison, this copy is among the best I have heard. Plays right through with no skips or repeats. Sounds great with limited surface noise – just the odd bit of light static crackle which is only audible between tracks and occasionally in just some quieter sections. This genuinely is light, occasional, never continuous, and never rises above background - at no point did it detract from my enjoyment at all during the play test – even the super quiet ‘planet caravan’ track sounds very good and plays as well as I have heard on any copy. I am maybe being over critical due to value – I’m pretty much just describing how good vinyl sounds and after all the whole point is that it’s not supposed to sound like a CD! It has a lovely deep, warm sound that only comes from these original pressings. Played back to back with a later Nems repress, the difference is astonishing. So if you have never listened to an original vertigo swirl copy it’s highly recommended! All in all the vinyl is a very nice example, harshly graded as it was on the borderline of being rated even higher. The Cover is decent showing some general wear but no major damage - mostly just some of the usual rubbing to the surface and seams. This original matt unlaminated finish is super prone to wear and this affects almost all copies – in comparison to others, I would say the rubbing is relatively light and the cover is a nice example. The inner gatefold is in very nice condition with none of the common discolouration or mottling. No major damage - no heavy creases, no tears, no seam splits, no writing and a good spine that is fully readable. Inner cover – Complete with original poly lined swirl sleeve which has a couple of small tears but id otherwise in decent condition Labels. Very nice undamaged, clean examples

A nice copy of this legendary album. Great vinyl and great audio. Honestly assessed and vinyl conservatively rated. Description plus full play test (read above)

Grading:

 I will be grading critically to avoid disappointment. (scale at bottom of page) In my experience there is no such thing as a used record that has no marking at all, if you choose to look closely enough!  Hence nothing will be described as mint.

Other stuff:

* Record has been play tested for at least a couple of tracks. I’ve been in contact with e-bayers who have already bought. They are very pleased with condition compared to what they expected from the grading and report excellent sound quality even from records listed as having heavier damage.

*Buy with confidence. I’m happy to offer a no argument refund should unexpected problems arise on playing or I’ve missed something in the description / grading (refund less postage on return of item within 7 days).

*Records have had a quick wipe only - will benefit from a good clean before playing.

Grading Scale:

Vinyl

5 = Absolute minimal amount of ultra light, totally superficial surface hairlines / marks that are only visible when tilted under strong light. Expect no impact on audio. 4 =   Light surface marks / scratches. Some more visible but all still superficial. May include 1 small slightly heavier mark affecting a single track only. Still expect no or minimal impact on audio. 3 = Some heavier marks / scratches. Expect them to be audible and slightly detract from the overall listening experience. 2 = Heavy scratches / marks. Expect to hear pronounced and distracting clicks or cracks on at least couple of tracks. 1 = Several heavy scratched / marks / other damage. Expect several tracks to be affected and a couple to the extent that they may be considered unlistenable. However should still play through.

Covers

5 = Hardly any wear of any description. Maybe slightest of wear to very tip of a corner or a couple of ultra  light tiny edge creases which you would have to look very closely to see. 4 = Some general light wear and maybe a small area of moderate wear. Includes seam wear (spine still readable), light creasing restricted to edges, slight discolouration (but not damage) from a removed stickers, maybe 1 slightly crumpled corner. 3 = Moderate general wear plus 1 piece of damage such as a rip, seam split, heavily folded corner, major scuff on  front / back, patch of surface removed by sticker or very noticeable ringwear. 2 = Heavy general wear plus one or two pieces of damage. 1 = Several major issues – very tatty.

Inner covers

5 = Hardly any wear of any description. Maybe a couple of small spots of very light discolouration or a super light and small crease. 4 = Discolouration, general light wear, light creasing. 3 = Moderate general wear plus 1 piece of damage such a seam split or heavily folded corner. 2 = Heavy general wear plus one or two pieces of damage. 1 = Several major issues – very tatty. Not graded = bog standard blank inner sleeve.
