Blackfeather ORIG OZ LP At the mountains of madness VG+ ’71 Infinity Prog Psyche
Bon Scott AC/DC John Robinson SINL934159
Blackfeather
At the mountains of madnessRare Original 1st Press OZ LP released in 1971 on Infinity Records. Cat: SINL934159.
Originally issued on Festival's newly inaugurated progressive label, Infinity, in April 1971, the record has had an extraordinary lifespan. It was a strong national seller back in the day and remains one of the most highly regarded heavy psych releases from the golden age of Australia's early 1970s rock scene. The album is dominated by the fluid, inventive guitar playing of John Robinson, the strident vocals of the then 19-year-old Neale Johns and the agile drive of the powerful rhythm section. The songs mix that heavy progressive sound with psych inflected guitar, making them some of the finest examples of the genre. Highlights include the airy, seductive Seasons of Change (a classic single, featuring the late, great Bon Scott on recorder), the thunderous Zeppelin-styled Long Legged Lovely and the Clapton-esque On this Day that I Die.
Tracks: At the mountains of madness/ On this day that I die/ Seasons of change part 1/ Mangos theme part 2/ Long legged lovely/ The rat (suite) - Main title (the rat) - The trad - Spanish blues - Blazwaorden (Land of dreams) - Finale (The rat).
There are some light spindle marks on labels. Record has some light scuff marks and very light scratches that cause some light crakles throughout mostly noticeable at start of track one and is in VG++ condition. Lightly textured cover has light ring wear and marks, some light age spots, a few tiny surface tears around edges and a small seam split on centre of spine around1.5cm long. Cover is in VG condition.
